The architectural concept of the Library, by Atelier Oslo and Lundhagem Architects, is a “large, central continuous space”, spanning over 19 600 sqm.. The building is a climate-focused, state-of-the-art declaration for a modern library.

Deichman Bjørvika aims to welcome two million visitors each year to explore it´s wide offer of books, multimedia, workshops, installations and facilities.

The founder of Volver and designer Ksenia Stanishevski designed several custom rugs together with Scenario Interior Architects, the vision director Silje Brænde and interior architect Iselin Riise Lunde.

For the fourth floor Volver has designed three large scale rugs for the reading and social z ones. The patterns from the identity concept have been adapted to the carpets and is made to look like different angles on top of each other. The colors are matched closely to the furniture and inventory of each zone. The largest rug covers 74 sqm. and is assembled seamlessly of three parts.

Design And Production Process

During the design process Ksenia worked closely with Silje and Iselin from Scenario Interior Architects, who have given both a precise brief and creative freedom in the project. After several rounds with design and color matching, the designs were sent to production facilities in India.

All the rugs are hand tufted by highly skilled craftsmen and made of pure New Zealand wool. The project required a special expertise and large-scale facilities. This large-scale production is truly unique for hand made rugs.

Special attention is given to long durability and high quality of rugs to endure many years in heavy traffic use in this public space. All the rugs are produced with focus on sustainability and natural materials.
